Inspiration equals success
The aim of the Lukuinto ('Joy of reading') programme is to develop comprehensive reading skills in children and young people and to promote the joy of reading through cooperation between school, library and home.
Lukuinto is the Ministry of Education and Culture's national three-year programme (2012–2015) implemented by the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Education of the University of Oulu.
The target groups of the programme include children and young people between the ages of 6 and 16, teachers, library professionals and parents. The programme includes the creation of a network of operators, the development of an operating model and training, as well as the distribution of what was developed and tested during the pilot project. The pilot project, which is an essential part of the Lukuinto programme, was implemented in 2013–2014.
The rationale behind the establishment of the programme includes, for example, the concern raised by the results of PISA and PIRLS studies over the reading motivation and skills of Finnish children and young people.
